The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for the Big Island until 6:45 p.m.

Around 3:30 p.m., radar showed heavy rain falling southwest of the Volcano area and northeast of Wood Valley, according to the service. The area of heavy rain is stationary and could impact travel on Hawaii Belt Road, between mile markers 30 and 40.

The service advised people to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. It also noted the rain can cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
